Marty Jewell 3rd Annual Metropolitan Junior Baseball League Invitational Baseball Tournament to be held this Saturday
To include Virginia-based teams from Richmond, Hampton and Norfolk
WHAT 
Named in tribute to The Honorable E. Martin Jewell, Councilman, Richmond City Council, Central 5th District (who will throw the ceremonial first pitch during the Opening Ceremonies), the Marty Jewell 3rd Annual Metropolitan Junior Baseball League Invitational Baseball Tournament will be held this Saturday. The games are free to watch; open to the public; and, everyone is invited come out and enjoy the day. Vendors will be on hand with refreshments.
The tournament will include an estimated 12 teams, representing the following age groups: Minors (10 and under), 12 and under, and 13-15. This invitational tournament will include Virginia-based teams from Richmond, Hampton and Norfolk.
The tournament games will be played at two Richmond locations managed by the Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities – Hotchkiss Community Center Field, located at 701 E. Brookland Park Boulevard, and the Westover Community Center Field, located at 1301 Jahnke Road.
The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League, which began its 2010 Richmond Season on Saturday, June 5, 2010, is a private national baseball organization established for African-American youth, up to 19 years of age. The organization was formed in 1966 in Richmond, Virginia and in includes teams from across the United States of America who compete annually for the national Black World Series championship title competition.
The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League is supported by the national RBI (Returning Baseball to Inner-Cities) program, KPMG (accounting Firm); Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation; and the SOLE (Sports, Opportunities, Literacy and Enrichment) group, a local consortium of public and private entities.
