A statement on behalf of Richmond City Council
Regarding the passing of retired Richmond Fire Lieutenant David Pulliam, Sr.
(Richmond, Virginia U.S.A.) - "The members of Richmond City Council express their heartfelt condolences to the family of retired Richmond Fire Lieutenant David Pulliam, Sr. on his passing, Wednesday, March 7, 2012.
A dedicated career firefighter, Lt. Pulliam, Sr. served honorably as a member of the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services for 35 years where he earned many awards and recognitions and the respect of all those who knew him due to his dedication to duty, community and the fire service.
As further testament to his dedication and commitment, Lt. Pulliam, Sr. served his fellow firefighters and members of the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency for 25 years as the President of the Richmond Chapter of the International Association of Firefighters, Local #995.
Known statewide for his efforts, Lt. Pulliam, Sr. also served career and volunteer firefighters from across the Commonwealth of Virginia for many years as President of the Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Foundation.
Leading by example, Lt. Pulliam, Sr.'s son followed in his father's footsteps and David Pulliam, Jr. currently serves as a Battalion Chief for the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
In America, public government and community service is considered to be among the most noble and important work a person can do and, through his service to Richmond families and our community, David Pulliam, Sr. proved his dedication to and support of the principles and creed written into the founding documents of our great Nation, in that our individual destinies and that of our families, communities, city, state and country include not only the aspiration of our federal constitutional republic but, the time, talent, investment, labor and dedication of all citizens in realizing the fulfillment of its promise.
David Pulliam, Sr. was known by and a friend of nearly all current and past members of Richmond City Council and its staff and all thoughts, hearts and prayers are with his family during this time in mourning his passing and in celebrating his life and legacy."
