Sited
around the Richmond Symphony's "Big Tent," a state-of the-art traveling
outdoor amphitheater-style stage, the festival is designed to attract, entertain
and delight thousands of people from throughout the region. The event is also a fundraiser for enhancing and expanding
music and arts programs for Richmond Public Schools students in Richmond's East
End. The financial goal for this year is $200,000 or more.
The
event is being hosted by the City of Richmond; The Honorable Cynthia I.
Newbille, Councilwoman, Richmond City Council, Richmond East End 7th Voter
District; The Honorable Nadine Marsh-Carter, Trustee, Richmond Public Schools
Board of Trustees, Richmond East End 7th Voter District; Richmond Public
Schools; Bon Secours Richmond Health System; Richmond Public Schools
Foundation; and, the Richmond Symphony.
Last
year, more than 80 community partners joined together for the 2016 festival in
hopes of creating a lasting and positive benefit to Richmond's East End
community. With support provided by festival partner Bon Secours and a host of
other sponsors, more than $100,000 was raised to support music initiatives for
Richmond Public Schools located in Richmond's East End. Funding was raised
through corporate and foundation support, donations from individuals both
inside and outside Richmond's East End community, as well as through bucket
collection during the festival itself.
