A statement from
Richmond City Council
Regarding
the passing of The Honorable Roy A. West, former Richmond City Council Councilmember and Mayor of
Richmond
Richmond, Virginia U.S.A. - “Today, as we lay Mayor Roy A. West to eternal rest, the heartfelt
condolences of all members of the Richmond
City Council go out to his family and friends as we join in mourning his passing,
and in honoring, celebrating, and remembering his life and legacy.
From his many years of dedicated service on
Richmond City Council as a Councilmember and as Mayor of Richmond, to his work
for Richmond Public Schools and in the community, Mr. West was a prominent and
committed civic leader in our city, and will long be remembered by all who
knew, loved, and cared about him.
In America, public,
elected, and community service are considered to be among the most important
and noble work a person can do and, through his outstanding example, Mayor Roy
A. West proved his dedication to and support of the principles and creed
written into the founding documents of our great Nation, in that our individual
destinies and that of our families, communities, city, state, and country
include not only the aspiration of our federal constitutional republic but, the
time, talent, investment, labor, and dedication of all of its residents in
realizing the fulfillment of its promise.
The Richmond City
Council hopes that time and the memories Mayor West's
family and friends have of him will help lessen the sorrow and bring them peace
and comfort now and in the days ahead."
