Richmond, Virginia – “Richmond City Council joins all Richmond residents in mourning the loss and celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. John Moeser, professor, historian, author, and friend.
Living a life of testimony on behalf of racial equality and inclusiveness, Dr. Moeser served for decades as a compassionate voice shepherding, shaping, and bending the moral arc of our humanity.
Dedicated to social justice, Dr. Moeser helped establish the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Urban Studies and Planning and served in numerous local and regional leadership roles and capacities, which included serving as a Senior Fellow of the University of Richmond Bonner Center for Civic Engagement, and Chair of the Richmond Human Relations Commission.
Throughout his life, Dr. Moeser served as a mirror and compass of our collective consciousness and he will be greatly missed by Richmond City Council, family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew, loved, and cared about him.”
