Richmond City Council joins the nation in celebrating Juneteenth as
a national holiday
WHAT Richmond, Virginia – Richmond City Council recognizes, honors, and celebrates the Virginia state
holiday, Juneteenth, as a national holiday. Held on June 19 and known as Juneteenth
Independence Day, Freedom Day, and Jubilee, Juneteenth is a day that commemorates
the end of slavery in the United States of America.
Richmond City Council invites and encourages all Richmond residents in embracing
this national day of celebration as one of rejoicing, reflection, and togetherness
for the entire Richmond community.
