appoints Laura K. Drewry, Esq. as new Richmond City Attorney
First woman Richmond City Attorney
(Richmond, Virginia) - Richmond City Council is pleased to announce the appointment, during its Formal Meeting tonight, of Laura K. Drewry, Esq. as the new City Attorney, a role she will begin immediately.
Laura K. Drewry will serve as the first woman Richmond City Attorney, in Richmond, Virginia.
Her duties will include serving as the City’s chief legal advisor for City of Richmond local government. She will also be responsible for providing management and oversight of the Richmond Office of City Attorney, which provides legal representation on behalf of the legislative and administrative branches of Richmond government, including all City government departments, boards, commissions, and agencies.
Ms. Drewry has worked in the Richmond Office of City Attorney since 2006, during which time she has covered many important practice areas of responsibility. Ms. Drewry served as Deputy City Attorney of the Division of Civil Litigation. She also has served as the primary contact for Fire and Emergency Services, GRTC Transit System (Registered Agent), Human Resources, Richmond Library Board, Richmond Personnel Board, and the Richmond Retirement Board.
A native Virginian, Laura K. Drewry earned her law degree from George Mason University, located in Fairfax County, Virginia.
During nearly 17 years serving as a lawyer in the Richmond Office of City Attorney, Ms. Drewry has earned a solid reputation for her tremendous dedication and commitment on behalf of the legal needs of the City of Richmond and on behalf of its residents.
Richmond City Council is excited to have Ms. Drewry’s exceptional institutional knowledge, professional skills, years of proven dedication, and legal expertise in Richmond government and looks forward to her continued commitment and demonstrated abilities in leading the Richmond Office of City Attorney.
Ms. Drewry replaces the former Richmond City Attorney who retired last month.
