Rescheduled: 4th Annual Marty Jewell Metropolitan Junior Baseball League Invitational Baseball Tournament

To include teams from Richmond, Norfolk, Petersburg, Rocky Mount, N.C. and other cities.

WHAT (Richmond, Virginia - U.S.A; July 11, 2011) -- Due to inclement weather, the tournament scheduled for this past Saturday (July 9, 2011) has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 16, 2011. Named in honor of The Honorable E. Martin Jewell, Councilman, Richmond City Council, Central 5th District (who will throw the ceremonial first pitch during the Opening Ceremonies), the 4th Annual Marty Jewell Metropolitan Junior Baseball League Invitational Baseball Tournament will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011. The games are free to watch; open to the public; and, everyone is invited come out and enjoy the day.

Donations of $5 are welcome and will be used to assist the Metropolitan Junior Baseball League and Richmond youth travel to the upcoming tournament in Orlando Florida, on July 26, 31, 2011.

The tournament will include the following age groups: Minors (10 and under), 12 and under, and 13-15. This invitational tournament will include Virginia-based teams from Richmond, Norfolk, Petersburg, Rocky Mount, N.C. and other cities.

The tournament games will be played at three baseball park field locations in Richmond managed by the Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities.

The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League is a private national baseball organization established for African-American youth, up to 19 years of age. The organization was formed in 1966 in Richmond, Virginia and includes teams from across the United States of America who compete annually for the national Black World Series championship title competition.

The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League is supported by the national RBI (Returning Baseball to Inner-Cities) program, KPMG (accounting Firm); Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation; and the SOLE (Sports, Opportunities, Literacy and Enrichment) group, a local consortium of public and private entities.
