Richmond City Council further strengthens its support of collective bargaining rights, protects historic African American cemeteries, authorizes 6 YMCA after-school programs, and increases support for people experiencing homelessness

Council further strengthened its support of city employee collective bargaining rights

Council amended the Richmond Code of Laws/Ordinances to further strengthen city employee collective bargaining rights.

 

Council further protected historic African American cemeteries

Council accepted funds from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to support preservation, maintenance, and stewardship of historically African American cemeteries.

 

Council authorized YMCA after-school programs at six elementary schools

Council authorized a contract between the City and YMCA to operate low-cost after-school programming at six elementary schools.

 

Council increased support for people experiencing homelessness

Council authorized funds to support CARITAS Surge Shelter Operations and furthered agreements with The Salvation Army supporting inclement weather shelter, year-round emergency shelter, and operation of resource and training center.

 

Council authorized agreement and funding for Chamberlayne Avenue Paving Project

Council authorized a City agreement and the acceptance of funds from the Viginia Department of Transportation for Chamberlayne Avenue Paving Project.

 

Council authorized $1 million to improve Broad Rock Creek Park

Council authorized $1 million from the U.S. National Park Service Land and Water Conservation Fund for improving Broad Rock Creek Park access and amenities.

 

Council increased housing availability in City

Council acted on additional legislation to further increase housing availability in the city.

 

Council reviewed and considered Special Use Permits

Council reviewed and considered Special Use Permit ordinances for properties in the city.

 

Council further strengthened funding for opioid recovery and support programs

Council adopted additional legislation to further fund opioid recovery and support efforts.
