To fill position becoming vacant due to retirement of Norman Sales
(RICHMOND, VA, U.S.A.)– Richmond City Council today announces the creation of a Richmond City Attorney Search and Interview Panel to fill the position of Richmond City Attorney that is becoming vacant with the retirement of current Richmond City Attorney, Norman Sales, Mr. Sales announced his retirement from the City of Richmond on November 12, 2009; to become effective on December 31, 2009. David Seitz, Senior Assistant Richmond City Attorney will serve as Interim Richmond City Attorney until the position is filled.
Duties of the Richmond City Attorney include management and oversight of the Richmond Office of the City Attorney, which provides legal representation on behalf of the legislative and administrative branches of government. This includes all departments, boards, commissions and agencies of the City.
Recruitment of a new Richmond City Attorney has been advertised at the local, state and national level. The position will remain open until filled. Interested potential applicants should contact the Richmond Department of Human Resources and/or visit the City of Richmond Website for more information.
The Richmond City Attorney Search and Interview Panel will begin reviewing prospective resumes in January 2010. Members of the Panel were appointed by the President of Council, with recommendations from Mayor Dwight Jones. They include:

Richmond Six Points Initiative Background ________________________________________
In 2009 the Richmond Police Department established an anti-crime operation named Richmond Six Points Initiative; based on the six components of hope, chance, recovery, restoration, partnership and community. The pilot program began in the Highland Park Neighborhood of Richmond and included an undercover anti-drug operation in the area of Enslow Avenue, Meadowbridge Road and Front Street. Thus far, the operation has lead to 20 arrests of drug suppliers; 50 cases made for various other drug violations; and, four criminal indictments. The operation took nine kilos of cocaine, 12 firearms, 505 grams of heroin and nearly $40,000 in cash off the streets. WHAT On behalf of the City, Richmond City Councilwoman Reva M. Trammell
(Southside 8th District) will accept a wreath honoring the service of departed United States Military Veterans.
Part of a national tribute sponsored by the Worchester Wreath Company (Harrington, Maine) and its Wreaths Across America initiative, wreaths will be placed on the graves of departed U. S. Military Service Veterans and at other official memorials, locations and sites nationally and worldwide.
This day will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia and proceed with wreaths being placed nationally and worldwide at official sites and cemeteries.
Official worldwide ceremonies will begin simultaneously at Noon, Eastern Standard Time 1700 Zulu.

9:00 a.m. Convoy will muster at Cox Transportation (1044 Dow Gil Road, Ashland, Virginia). Convoy will include an 18-wheel truck, Virginia State Police and Richmond Police Dept. Motorcycle Squad and up to 500 motorcycle riders.
10:00 a.m. Convoy departs Ashland, Virginia (Traveling I-95 South).
Route in Richmond includes Belvidere to Virginia War Memorial for presentation; then to Virginia Capitol Square then to Richmond City Hall for Presentation; then to Richmond National Cemetery.

(Richmond, Virginia) -- Richmond City Councilman Doug Conner, South Central 9th District, Richmond City Council, today releases the following statement regarding the fire Tuesday night, December 1, 2009, at the Chesterfield Square Apartments (a rent-subsidized complex for seniors and people with disabilities).
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy and my hopes for them for a speedy return to normalcy in the aftermath of this terrible disruption in their lives. I also want to thank the many people who helped out in this crisis - from the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services, staff and visitors at CJW Medical Center, good Samaritans, area organizations, and the American Red Cross Greater Richmond Chapter.
