Applications will be provided for a one-day home repair event, being held April 30, 2011. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2010.
Examples of repairs include painting; weather-proofing; repairs to heating, plumbing and electrical systems; roofing; insulating; appliance repair/replacement; installing/repairing handrails; carpentry; windows; porch repairs; improved lighting; removal of trip and fall hazards; general repairs; drainage improvements; and, yard work.
Those who would be eligible for the program include:

WHAT
Richmond City Councilman Chris A. Hilbert, Northside 3rd District, will hold a meeting in the Northside 3rd District. Councilman Hilbert holds individual meetings in Richmond’s Northside 3rd District throughout the year that include information on his goals and accomplishments; a topical agenda; and, special guests. The meetings are free and all Northside 3rd District citizens are invited and encouraged to attend.
The agenda and invited guests for this meeting include:
• Public Safety Report on the Northside 3rd District
Richmond Police Department 4th Precinct
• Partnership for Families (A nonprofit organization that assists parents and children in Richmond’s Northside) will discuss its programs and activities at their new location at 800 W. Graham Road.
• New Richmond Real Estate Tax Payment Schedule
Beginning Calendar Year 2011, our Richmond Real Estate Taxes will be divided into two collections per year instead of all at once. Half payments will be due January 14, 2011 and June 14, 2011. The Richmond Department of Finance will be on hand to discuss.

Two-day music event includes more than 25 jazz/other diverse musical artists
WHAT Councilman Marty Jewell, Richmond City Council, Central 5th District, encourages everyone to attend the 2010 Richmond Jazz Festival at Maymont this weekend. This two-day multi-stage music festival will include more than 25 jazz and other diverse musical acts.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets, No alcohol or glass containers are permitted.
Tickets are $25 in advance per day and $40 for a two-day pass. Tickets the day of the event at the gate will be $30 per day and $50 for a two-day pass. For more ticket information, please visit: www.jazzatmaymont.com.
Artists scheduled to perform include Chaka Khan, Boney James, Poncho Sanchez, Norman Brown, Stanley Clarke, Ledisi, Chuck Mangione, Rick Braun, Richard Elliott, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Alex Bugnon, Sharon Rae North and Plunky and Oneness.
Interested event-goers are reminded that Maymont is located in a residential neighborhood and parking is limited near the park. Everyone is encouraged to use the free shuttle service being provided, from Richmond City Stadium, which will run every quarter of an hour or shuttles (for $3.50), available from Virginia Commonwealth University - West Cary/Harrison Streets (1101 West Cary Street) and West Main/Laurel Streets (801 West Main Street) Parking Lots. Once a private estate, Maymont is an100-acre public park that is owned by the city of Richmond and managed by the Maymont Foundation. The park includes beautifully landscaped grounds, walking trails, a nature center, children’s farm, Japanese and Italian Gardens, mansion, historic buildings, carriage collection, and wildlife exhibits. The Maymont property was given to Richmond citizens in 1925 following the posthumous wishes of owners, James and Sallie Dooley.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Maymont Foundation. Please note: Maymont will only be open to ticket holders on August 14-15, 2010.

The forum will include a discussion with regional leaders and national experts regarding vacant property issues in Richmond. It also will explore new policy alternatives that address concentrations of vacant properties in communities.
The program will include: Jim Kelly, vacant housing policy expert, Rachel Flynn, Director, Richmond Department of Planning and Development Review, and Racquel Reddie, Community Development Manager for the National Community Stabilization Trust.
