Councilwoman Robertson to hold critical housing meeting for Southern Barton Heights and Highland Park Neighborhoods

All Gateway 6th District citizens are invited and encouraged to attend

WHAT The Honorable Ellen F. Robertson, Councilwoman, Richmond City Council, Gateway 6th District, will host a meeting in the Gateway 6th District to hear and discuss concerns regarding rental housing, special use housing and investor-owned properties in Richmond’s Southern Barton Heights and Highland Park Neighborhoods. Information on the factors that impact home value and opportunities for improving homes and purchasing property will be shared; as will discussions regarding foreclosures, investment opportunities, and the availability of rental housing in these neighborhoods.

This is the second meeting Councilwoman Robertson is holding as a result of declining Real Estate Assessment Values in Richmond’s Southern Barton Heights and Highland Park Neighborhoods. Her first meeting was held on August 31, 2010 and was attended by more than 75 residents, mostly elderly homeowners. This second meeting is to hear the voices of potential homebuyers, investors and renters.

“Southern Barton Heights and Highland Park residents must attend and take action to improve the quality of life and property values of our community,” says Robertson. “We instructed the City Administration to produce a plan to reverse and stabilize housing values by September 30, 2010 and that date has come and gone with no plan. We are still waiting for action and hope that they will have one to present to the Council Land Use, Housing and Transportation Standing Committee by our November Meeting.”

All Gateway 6th District citizens are invited and encouraged to attend. Free refreshments will be served. Parking is Free.
