Regarding
the passing of
The Honorable Henry L. Marsh, III
(Richmond, Virginia U.S.A. 1.24.2025) – “Richmond City Council joins all Richmond residents, our
region, and the Commonwealth of Virginia in mourning the passing and
celebrating the life, leadership, and legacy of The Honorable Henry L. Marsh,
III. He will be greatly missed.
Richmond City Council members and staff, extend their heartfelt and sincere condolences to his children, grandchildren, and the entire Marsh Family.
A
dedicated servant leader, Senator Marsh served as a member of the Senate of
Virginia for more than two decades, and for a quarter of a century as a
distinguished member of Richmond City Council, where he was selected, under the
former form of government, to serve as Vice Mayor in 1970 and as Mayor of
Richmond in 1977, which made him our city’s first mayor of African American
descent.
Born and raised in Richmond, during his life, Sen. Marsh was well known for his devotion and commitment on behalf of all Richmonders and Virginians and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who knew, loved, and cared about him.
