WHAT (Richmond, Virginia U.S.A.) -- Richmond City Council celebrates Richmond for winning an Outside Magazine Best Town Ever online poll and thanks the Richmond Metro Area for voting for Richmond.



As reported to Richmond City Council by Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers, this month Richmond, Virginia had the most votes in a recent Outside Magazine Best Town Ever online poll. If it wins the whole contest, it is possible that Richmond would be the cover story of the October issue of Outside Magazine. Final online vote totals reported to Council were as follows:

BACKGROUND _______________________________________________________________________

Founded in 1991, the Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers is a nonprofit organization that was created to develop sporting events in the region. The organization’s three main strategic objectives include: attracting, creating and improving sporting events; serving as a catalyst for building sports facilities; and, aiding area youth through sports outreach programs. The organization is supported by thousands of volunteers, hundreds of contributors, dozens of sponsors, local governments, local sports organizations, and partnerships with other local nonprofit organizations. In addition to growing sports tourism, the organization has managed the Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholarship program that provides college scholarships to area student athletes.
