Councilwoman Cynthia I. Newbille invites all to see 1,000th Home being improved by Rebuilding Together of Richmond volunteers

Part of 40 homes that will be served this year on “Rebuild Day”

WHAT          (Richmond, Virginia U.S.A.) -- The Honorable Cynthia I. Newbille, Councilwoman, Richmond City Council, Richmond East End 7th Voter District, invites everyone to come out and see 40 homes in the Church Hill Neighborhood receive free home repairs and safety updates. The event will mark the 1,000th home being improved by the organization over the years.

                           Produced and managed by Rebuilding Together of Richmond, the 2014 Richmond Rebuilding Day is part of a national event. A tremendous undertaking, the annual success of this work locally represents thousands of hours organizing logistics; soliciting and reviewing applications; coordinating funding and supplies; providing public information and communications; coordinating and managing thousands of community volunteers; and, requiring months of preparatory skilled trades work.

                           Examples of work planned include repairs to heating/cooling systems, roofs, windows, porches, installation of handrails, improved lighting and removal of dangerous fall hazards. Rebuilding Together of Richmond is a local nonprofit agency that receives its supplies and funding from Richmond-based businesses, individuals and community partners. 

                           Homes to be repaired are chosen annually from applications submitted to Rebuilding Together of Richmond in the previous year. Criteria for assistance includes: homeowners who are 55 years of age or older or have disabilities; have a household income less than $25,000; and, living in the property in a selected project area (assessed annually).
