Councilwoman Ellen F. Robertson invites all to celebrate "Virginia Invasive Species Removal Day" and join in waging a Second Attack against tree-killing invasive English Ivy Vines in Richmond's Cannon Creek Greenway



Volunteers invited and encouraged to assist



WHAT (Richmond, Virginia U.S.A.) -- The Honorable Ellen F. Robertson, Councilwoman, Richmond City Council, Gateway 6th Voter District, invites all to celebrate "Virginia Invasive Species Removal Day" and join in waging a second attack against tree-killing invasive English Ivy Vines in Richmond's Cannon Creek Greenway.



Part of an ongoing project organized by the Riverine Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program, which began in May, the group will be joined by community and area volunteers in cutting English Ivey vines from old growth trees along the roadsides and embankments of the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike that courses through the Cannon Creek Greenway, located in Richmond's Gateway 6th Voter District.



Both the Turnpike and the nearby half-mile ravine are part of the Cannon Creek Greenway and its Bicycle & Pedestrian Trail that runs from Valley Road to E. Brookland Park Boulevard in Richmond’s Highland Park Neighborhood.



All Highland Park Neighborhood residents, interested individuals, community groups, businesses, families, friends, neighbors, and organizations in the Greater Richmond-Metro Area are invited to come out to help.



Master Naturalists and volunteers are requested to park and meet at 9:00 a.m. along Dove Street near its intersection with the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. They also are asked to wear work clothes, gloves, sturdy shoes, and to bring hand clippers to cut the ivy vines. Water and snacks are also recommended. In case of rain, another date for the activity will be announced.



WHEN Saturday, May 4, 2013

9:00 am. - 2:00 p.m.



WHERE Master Naturalists and volunteers are requested to park and meet at 9:00 a.m. along Dove Street near its intersection with the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. Work will be done along the road roadsides and embankments of the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike that courses through the Cannon Creek Greenway.
