Richmond City Council appoints Lawrence Rashad Anderson as its new Council Chief of Staff

(Richmond, Virginia) - Richmond City Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Lawrence Rashad Anderson to head the Richmond City Council Office of the Council Chief of Staff as its new Council Chief of Staff.

     In this position, Mr. Anderson will assist Richmond City Council in its role of creating and amending local laws, providing government policy and oversight, and establishing the Richmond Government Budget.

     Mr. Anderson previously served as an urban research fellow at the American University School of Public Affairs - Metropolitan Policy Center in Washington, DC, where he examined factors attributing to political unrest in urban environments. Prior to that, Mr. Anderson led a variety of local management initiatives in New Orleans, Louisiana; Baltimore, Maryland; and, Richmond, Virginia.

     Mr. Anderson earned his Master of Arts in Political Communication from American University, Master of Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Virginia State University. Additionally, Mr. Anderson has held fellowships with the Journalism Initiative at Yale University and the University of Virginia - Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership.

Richmond City Council is excited to include the addition of Mr. Anderson's exceptional knowledge, skills, and abilities with its professional staff and considers him an outstanding choice to lead this important Council Office. Council welcomes Mr. Anderson and looks forward to his service on behalf of Richmond residents.

Council also expresses its profound thanks and appreciation to Ms. Meghan K. Brown, Council Deputy Chief of Staff, for her service as its Interim Council Chief of Staff during the recruitment process.

Mr. Anderson was appointed by Richmond City Council Resolution #2019-R062 and began his role today, Monday, November 18, 2019.

The Richmond City Council Office of the Council Chief of Staff is one of six Council Offices and about 50 Board and Commission that reports to Council.

New Date/Location: Richmond City Council Navy Hill Development Advisory Commission Meeting Schedule

WHAT          Richmond, Virginia - The Richmond City Council Navy Hill Development Advisory Commission has updated its meeting schedule. The upcoming working meeting, previously scheduled for November 30, 2019 at the Main Library, has been moved to Saturday, December 7, 2019 (9:00 a.m. - Noon) in Richmond City Council Chambers. Public comments are invited, encouraged, and welcomed during these meetings.

                       The Commission also plans to hold four additional Public Hearing meetings in December in separate geographic areas of Richmond. The additional dates, times, and locations will be forthcoming.
