Richmond City Council to resume holding its meetings in person in September 2021

WHAT   Richmond, Virginia Richmond City Council is aiming for September 2021 to resume holding its in-person meetings.

During its Richmond City Council Formal Meeting held on June 28, 2021, Richmond City Council, per Richmond City Council Ordinance 2021-181, approved extending the continuity of government parameters - under which it has been operating since April of last year - to the end of this year, in order to provide it the opportunity to resume its meetings in person consistent with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines in order to safeguard and ensure the public health, safety, and well-being of Richmond residents.

Richmond City Council meetings are currently being held virtually through electronic communication means pursuant to and in compliance with Richmond City Council Ordinance No. 2020-093, adopted April 9, 2020, as most recently amended by Ordinance No. 2020-181, adopted June 28, 2021. These meetings are open to the public and held virtually though electronic teleconference/videoconference via the Microsoft Teams platform and are closed to public in-person participation.

Richmond City Council has been successfully holding virtual public meetings via Microsoft Teams (rather than in-person gatherings in Richmond City Council Chambers) since spring of last year due to the ongoing deadly COVID-19 pandemic crisis that has and continues to impact so many families in Richmond, Virginia, our nation, and the world.

Richmond City Council’s next Richmond City Council Formal will be held (virtually) on Monday, July 26, 2021 and Council does not typically hold Formal meetings during the month of August. In-person meetings are held in Richmond City Council Chambers, on the second floor of Richmond City Hall, located at 900 East Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia.
