A statement on behalf of
Richmond City Council regarding the
Passing
of Mr. Edgar A. Duffy
"The members of
Richmond City Council express their heartfelt sorrow
at learning of the death Mr. Edgar A. Duffy, former
City Clerk for the City of Richmond. Born September 28, 1912, Mr. Duffy died
September 6, 2014, just a few weeks shy of his 102nd birthday.
A
true Richmond treasure and dedicated public servant. Mr. Duffy served Richmond
residents for more than four decades; dutifully and diligently performing the many
important responsibilities required as the Assistant Richmond City Clerk, from
March 23, 1943 to December 1, 1974, and Richmond City Clerk, from December 1,
1974 to November 16, 1984.
In
America, government service is considered to be among the most noble and important
work a person can do and Mr. Edgar Duffy’s dedication to our community will
long be honored and remembered. His commitment to
Richmond was profound and his work helped to further improve the lives of all
our residents and families.
